Garry Arzumanyan is an award-winning artist, who works and creates basically in surrealism genre. Mixing classic seascape with modern art, as he confess, he’s just capturing what his hearth feels and what says his unconscious.
The art created by him stands out for peculiar allegories. His paintings clearly illustrate his symbolic system, which was formed in the philosophical and allegorical fields. However, the core of his creativity is a person with subconscious ideas and feelings. He use the element of the sea to make the feelings of an intelligent being more tangible and visible.
What if it is not the sea that makes us part of the spiritual world in the easiest and most relaxed way?
Variability of clouds and sea, smooth change of color tone, penetration of sunlight, transitions of blue color from fading gray to green combined with an emotional white color react to the mentality and feelings of his human characters. The essence of surrealist painting is to convey the feelings of the subconscious. In this regard, he manage to create more clearly and sincerely comparison between his vision and reality.
From early childhood inspired by the works of Ivan Aivazovsky and Francis Bacon, Garry loves to discover people`s emotions, fears, dark and light sides in his compositions.
Garry's expressive surreal seascapes substantially reflect the issues of the climate change, to which the artist tries to attract the attention of a viewer. The Global ocean level rise, climate change, lack of drinking water resources, these all are global issues that directly affect the life of a human being, and the artist perceives this mutual influence by analyzing and depicting in his art through the prism of individual existential dualism.
As artist thinks regardless our self-identities, we should act as one on certain issues and strive to find the key to solving global problems. In this sense, the idea of "I am you" perfectly reflects the reality that the objective perception of a society is intertwined with the subjective perception of an individual regarding certain issues.
"Many people think I do paint a sea, water, ocean. I don't really depict it. I depict the man, using a sea, ocean, water and other nautical imageries. I paint people with their weak and strong, people with their fears, people with their dreams", - Garry Arzumanyan said.
His paintings have been exhibited in Netherlands, the United States, Australia, Slovenia, France, Serbia, Belarus, and Armenia. He describes his art as being born by both women and the sea, stating that he has not yet encountered "a deeper, more enigmatic, nor more fatal phenomena". Arzumanyan's expressive compositions are created with oils, pencils, and charcoal on canvas or paper.
