Concept

My artist lens is one of a very aware observer experiencing my immediate environment, life and human events. Wherever I find myself, I always feel the need to analyze, investigate, compare and try to untangle the world around me. I accept the important roles of documentation and expression that we artists have to play throughout history. My artistry reflects my daily experience and acts as a moderator for the experience of others on social injustice. My art production process allows me to discover and reveal what we truly go through how we deal with it, who we truly are at our core. My works are of common everyday life which is the discovery of the mysterious relationship between human beings and their circumstances. My goal as an artist is to create works that are personal and express a sense of social responsibility.

Biography

Akolo Emmanuel Olusegun is a self-taught contemporary visual artist from Kogi, Nigeria, A Civil Engineering graduate of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
He is a traditional artist who is known for using earth colours on the skin of his figures, drawing inspiration from the environment, he’s largely concerned with documenting social injustice, struggles and occurrences and He hopes to influence the world and humanity to embrace, tolerate, and love one another despite race, cultural or religious differences and beliefs.
As a traditional contemporary artist he has exhibited in several exhibitions in Lagos and Abeokuta, Nigeria including the Art Varsity Awakening in 2016, Signature Sogal Acquire Auction 2019, as well as several other group shows. He was also selected as a candidate of Saatchi Art’s 23 artists to collect in 2023 he was also the only nigerian nominated. His works have been collected by art collectors from different countries- United states, Nigeria, China, United Kingdom among others.
