Together they are called konpaku (soul and spirit). The soul and spirit were linked to the philosophy of Yi, which believed that the soul belongs to the yang and returns to the heaven (tama) and the spirit belongs to the yin and returns to the earth. We live by circulating our soul and spirit like breathing. When we are healthy, when we are sick, we must not let either yin or yang be absent. Both life and death are a cycle.
