Growing up in the province of Marinduque known as the heart of the Philippines, Maria has been surrounded with bucolic landscape and panoramic view of the sea next to her home. Seeing it flourish is like seeing an artist making its own content, a composition enriched with colors. Being naturally drawn into art, Maria started fusing her creativity and nature thru illustrations, letterings, and acrylic paintings.
Her interest in art cultivated and further developed when she moved to Manila and decided to pursue Architecture. Taking the degree introduced her to watercolors and pencil renderings. She was given an opportunity to participate in school exhibitions and started accepting commissioned projects. She then became a self-thought calligrapher.
After completing her degree Maria took a two-year break from art industry to develop and harness, once again, her emotional reactivity not just to art but more importantly to herself. The break, which was initially from fear, gave her the opportunity to regenerate her curiosity and rediscover her creativity. She spent her free time watching other artists at work; observing their artworks unfold the way she saw nature did during her childhood itched her to pick the brush once again.
The Manila-based artist’s works primarily focuses on acrylic and oil paintings that showcases nature and architecture. Her artistic influences were forms of arts, experienced through early encounters with nature and memories of childhood. Maria falls outside the confines of any particular style, instead, she opted to do whatever brushstroke the moment requires making her artistic voice more prevalent in her works.
