Concept

Evangelos Papapostolou(Ευάγγελος Παπαποστόλου)

This is a self-portrait I made during the second and biggest Covid-19 lockdown that is happening right now in my country, Greece. From my earliest childhood I showed interest towards art, and especially for Renaissance art. I always worshipped the Great Masters such as Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Albrecht Dürer, Caravaggio and many more. It was fascinating that they could paint a world that was so much prettier than the real World. When I started studying Photography and learned even more about Art History and those Great Masters I wanted to copy them, create a Photograph that would look like a renaissance painting, with high contrast ‘Chiaroscuro’, lots of details, individuals and hidden symbolisms, dramatic poses e.t.c. But I couldnt find the proper number of people to create such a big artwork, so I started experimenting with myself, ‘cloning’ myself, creating multiple characters with different personalities… and it worked. After 3 years of experimentation and testing I was ready to create my biggest artwork ‘The Gathering of the Dandies’. It took me a month of preperation and a total of 15 days of photographing to create it. ‘The Gathering of the Dandies’ mostly consists of moments that I miss during the harsh 6 months of the Covid-19 lockdown. Simple moments such as going out with friends and family, going at bar, chatting, drinking and eating together, going to a concert, talking about the newest movie or video game. Ordinary things that ordinary people do.

Concept

Biography

My name is Evangelos Papapostolou. I am a 22 year old photographer, located in Greece. After studying Photography for three years at the Middlesex University of London, I gained the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Photography in 2021. During those years, I accepted numerous jobs as an Assistant Photographer and Camera Operator Assistant.
Near the end of my studies, I was able to work as a Lead Photographer in numerous Fashion and Beauty Photoshoots in cooperation with Fashion Designers and Makeup Artists.

My first exhibition was located in the famous Brickworks Museum ‘Tsalapata’ in Greece, which is well-known for hosting Art and Photography exhibitions. After that, my work was shown in numerous Photography exhibitions, which were organized by my University. Some of my photographs were also accepted by the ‚Museum of Photography‘ in Thessaloniki, Greece, and will be exhibited there in the
near future.

I had my first ever publication in the Magazine ‚Playboy Greece, The Senses Issue‘, a Holiday Special Issue from December 2019. Another publication of mine was printed in ‘Travel’ Magazine, which comes with the most famous newspaper in Greece ‘Kathimerini’. It contained a photograph from a Wildlife series I created in 2020, called ‘The Darkest Hours’. The photograph is accompanied by a review of mine, in which I explain the urgent meaning of the series.

My passion for Nature and Wild Life motivated me to become a Photographer. During my studies I also developed a high interest in Fashion Photography and Fine Art Photography.
