'Finding Home' is the concept I explore within my art practice.
Finding Home is about the settings humans call home; such as our planet, our world, immediate surroundings, the buildings in which we sleep and the communities in which we thrive (our tribes).
Finding Home is about human adaptability and their ability to rediscover simple pleasures and the joy of community in the face of adversity.
My concept also explores Marks of Belonging.
Marks made by humans in their quest to belong and find home. tattooing, scarring, marks of injury or adversity, and marks humans continue to make on their surroundings.
I am a painter who loves working on silk. I believe the silk can be a metaphor for humanity. I love distressing and painting into silk. I marvel at its organic nature and tactility, I admire its tenacity and spirit. Silk is open to reinvention, it evokes memory and history.
Working this way has enabled me to combine my love of drawing, painting and textile. It has been an artistic homecoming for me.

Jennifer A Lawrence
I have been a creative since childhood, a hobbyist for 15 years and a full time working artist for about 10 years.
I have had the good fortune to study under a number of excellent teachers and mentors.

I have been hung in several art prizes and have, between 2012 and 2021 enjoyed a number of successfully exhibitions.
In 2019 and 2021 I was fortunate enough to have sold out shows, my work purchased by other artists, friends and visitors to our area from Sydney and beyond.
In late 2021 I was interviewed by 123Art Magazine.

I am lucky enough to be based on the South Coast of NSW in Australia. It is an amazing coastline. It is beautiful, ancient and draws people like me who feel at home in this environment.

My artistic goal is to continue to develop and share my work and further explore the concept of Finding Home. There is much to explore within this concept and it is under the umbrella of Finding Home that I can best express myself and develop my art practice.
Humanity fascinates me. Through the use of silk in my painting, I marvel at human tenacity, longevity and ability to adapt. The fact that humans are also destructive does not escape me and I explore that trait by distressing the silk using mainly rust and fire.
My art practice involves distressing and treating raw silk and raw silk thread and harvesting warp threads.
I paint and stitch into the distressed silk to achieve the work I envisage. This is an extremely time consuming method, but the organic nature and tenacity of the silk is joyful to work with.
I use acrylic paint for health reasons and will occasionally produce works on linen or canvas just using acrylic paint and charcoal. I also love using powdered pigments and charcoal on a brush in my drawing practice.
The environment in which I live often informs the colours and textures of my work. I am greatly inspired by human kind and read history and anthropology to help inform my work.
