Contemporary Artist Antra Srivastava is graduate with honours in English Literature.
She has travelled extensively across the globe over past 20 years which has brought her into the contact with wealth of outlooks and introduced her to vast range of perceptions ideas and knowledge. It profoundly affected her work and subsequently touched many lives. Being an army wife, social welfare has always been an integral part of her life. She has conducted various art workshops for the families and children of armed forces as well as in civil to sensitize people about the healing and uplifting power of art and also its economic prospects.
Being a travel enthusiast, all sort of experiences get infused into the process of painting. Travelling outside helps to travel inside too. Travelling into the nature around enriches the visual vocabulary. The different layers of depths seen in the vast landscapes of nature are encouraging. This, again, has many layers of perception, which essentially get transform on the canvas throughout the process. Nature is dynamic energy that resides in all its forms and this does include her works of art too.
A brush with the silence within
To let ‘within’ appear on canvas is a deep insightful happening strengthened by inner silence. This happens in the moments
of transcendence. Abstraction in figurative style for her is an emotional, transformative and spiritually rich form of visual expression.
The space, chosen to paint in, is determined to mothers its forms within different visual dimensions. Colors grow into space and take their own forms…. forms that tend to carry the distinctive energy of their own, evoking a sense of movement and a sense of stability at the same time.
She does not treat art, and life in isolation and deems it necessary to experience life to paint. Her images are a byproduct of her thoughts and emotions, her readings, observations, beliefs, values and vast compilation of past experiences.
She works with oil and acrylic mostly and rich colours are an integral part of her compositions.
Recently she has collaborated her work with an acclaimed Iraqi Poet. Their idiosyncratic book 'Poetic Palette' showcasing her paintings based on the poems of the poet is published and received with great response.
She has deep interest in language and literature and apart from expressing through brushes she expresses herself through her poems and other literary mediums as well. Her book Mann Pankhi : khwab aasman, a collection of hindi poems is published recently. She has translated a novella ( A Gothic Christmas Angel) of an award winning American author Anna Erishkigal, which was received with much love.
