I do not have a background that I can proudly claim, such as having graduated from an art university or having won various awards. However, I have loved to draw pictures since I was a child. I remember that I used to draw pictures freely and enthusiastically at school and at home, but there was a period when I could no longer enjoy drawing pictures. However, little by little I started to enjoy painting again. One thing may be that I started to draw afro pictures. I think I probably started drawing when I was in junior high school. I think I started drawing from an imitation of something. But I think I was still drawing pictures other than afros. Second, I think I was assigned to create POP and promotional materials to sell at work. There, I was allowed to create whatever I wanted, so I think I was able to give shape to my ideas and inspiration to the fullest. I think I was starting to draw quite a few afro drawings. I had my antennae up to create something as interesting as possible. I was very happy when I got responses to what I created and developed. Then, about 10 years ago, I started drawing the pattern of my current afro drawings. It was born out of something. At first I drew with colored pencils, but my range expanded to marker pens, canvas, digital, and embroidery. I also drew other afros based on the motifs of ukiyoe large-neck paintings. The only art-related thing I can say I learned was the basics of Illustrator and Photoshop in web design and other courses at a web school. I also studied premiere pro and after effects a little bit on my own using Adobe CC (including online study at Adobe), and I am now able to create digital art and videos. In 2016, I participated in an exhibition at the Design Art Museum at a cafe in Harajuku. And in 2020, despite the Corona disaster, he held his first solo exhibition "It's full of afro" in Daikanyama. He challenged himself to create not only canvas paintings but also various goods, and although he held the exhibition without any knowledge of what to expect when holding a solo exhibition, it turned out to be a solo exhibition that he thought was a good performance for his first time holding it. In 2021, I participated in "intersection12" held at a gallery in Nagoya. Currently, although at a slow pace, I am creating artworks and selling them here at Tricera, creating my own sales website, and posting on Instagram. It's time to step on the gas pedal and push forward with my art activities! I am switching to the mode. Also, about the artist name "Grasshopper". It's not that I'm obsessed with it or anything. When I came across the word "Grasshopper" somewhere, I said it in my mind and thought, "That has a nice ring to it," and suddenly I remembered that and decided to use it as my artist name. I thought "hopper" had a nice bouncy pronunciation and light feel to it, and when I pictured "Grasshopper" in my mind, a color that tickled my fancy, like a mix of blue and green, came up in the image. It has nothing to do with Afro, but I really like it.
