Tom Paulsen was born in 1952 in an artic island in northern Norway into a Sea Sami family . This island is placed in the community of Måsøy in Finnmark, and the Barents Sea is their nabour.

Tom had to follow his family to Oslo, capitol of Norway, and grew up here. His mother died when he was 2 years old, and his father was a sailorman, som Tom was then placed in a children home in Oslo run by the Salvation Army. He had a safe and comfort home with the Salvation Army and was allowed to stay there till he was an adult.

Drawing and painting was his favourite hobby, and he applied and started studying at The Art Academy in Oslo some years. Besides the studying he worked in an Art Store in Oslo and meet many of the famous artists at this time and helped them with making their canvases. He got married and got his first child, the studying had to wait because he had to find a job to feed his family.

After 30 years, his children were grown up, and he found his artpencils and started up painting again. He studyed the arctic light and painted winter sceneries. Next was the arctic midnightsun and the beautiful midnight light. He was back in his childhood island and bought a house where he could study the artic light in both summer and winter. The northern light is also a favourite painting impression.

Nothing else than oilpainting matters to Tom Paulsen. He became the famous winter-oilpainter, but is know also known as the midnightsun-oilpainter.
