Artist Statement Art is everything. Painting is freedom. Freedom to step inside of who we are and explore. I am self-taught with an extensive background in video and photography. I like to paint on a hard surface like a wall or floor; so, I can push the paint, scrape or sand it off. I like pushing hard into the surface. It makes me feel alive. There’s always tension, urgency in life, and this is represented by adding and subtracting different media. It’s a process. I keep doing that for as long as it takes until I am inspired by what I see, and that is where it begins to take shape. The paintings become an inner exploration, surreal collage of space and time that I call mindscapes. They are the events of the day or yesterday, memories of the past, and muses of the future that come to the surface with faces inside of faces, animals, numbers, and expressions, all connecting into a single timeline. Works are both digital, traditional, and combined.

Art is everything. Painting is freedom. Freedom to step inside of who we are and explore.

I am self-taught with an extensive background in video and photography.

I like to paint on a hard surface like a wall or floor; so, I can push the paint, scrape or sand it off. I like pushing hard into the surface. It makes me feel alive. Ken Freeman (Ken Law) was born in a small town in Gainesville, Texas. Although he started painting in high school, he instead pursued photography. After graduating from the University of Central Oklahoma, he started a career in photography as his artistic way of expressing himself. His photography c...

Ken Freeman (Ken Law) was born in a small town in Gainesville, Texas. Although he started painting in high school, he instead pursued photography. After graduating from the University of Central Oklahoma, he started a career in photography as his artistic way of expressing himself. His photography career lasted for a little more than a decade before he realized his love of it had faded with the advancement of technology. He also spent 20 years teaching in the Army Field Artillery Survey until he retired in 2006. Eventually, he moved to Taiwan to teach English with his wife. About ten years ago, things changed for him. While teaching English as a second language in Taiwan, he stumbled upon painting again. Today, his works continue to be privately collected around the world.
