Borghildur Indriðadóttir is an artist born in Reykjavík and partly raised in Berlin. She studied at the Reykjavík School of Visual Arts: visual art, painting, drawing and analogue photography and received her Bachelor degree from Listaháskóli Íslands (LHÍ; Iceland Academy of the Arts). Afterwards, the artist worked as a performer in well-known performance expos such as at Schaubühne and in Volksbühne Berlin. She obtained her Masters at the Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK; Berlin University of the Arts) in architecture. Her practice involves the dimension of ritual, dealing with architecture and performance through sound - color - light - and atmosphere. Within this framework, her site-specific installations implement different discourses effectively to the respective space. Her research on gender, social structures and power roles is combined with cinematic elements. From a young age, Borghildur worked in collaboration with various artists, curators and directors mainly in Europe. The artist is known for her performance exhibition "Demoncrazy - Drosophila” opening the program of the Icelandic Arts Festival depicting powerful young women in front of past paintings by men in power positions of public institutions — a recurring topic she constantly investigates and discusses. Borghildur developed the exhibition series such as HAH Editions, Terminal Exhibitions and the newly formed Terminal X operated from Berlin and Reykjavík. Her ultimate goal is to fly to the moon, return the missing rock and perform for the stars.
