MACIEJ HOFFMAN, BIOGRAPHY. I am a painter born in Poland in 1964, living in Great Britain since 2012, working and exhibiting in many countries around the world. After studying philosophy for three years I started my artistic life entering Academy of Fine art in Wroclaw where I made my degree in Painting and Sculpture in 1992. Primarily I was fascinated with new technology and power of digital media however finally I turned back to traditional technique of oil painting which I consider as best way to express myself. During my artistic career I was involved in some theatre performances as a stage and costume designer f.egg creating visual frame to Olga Tokarczuk’s (Literature Noble Prize 2018) “Primeval”. I used to lead art workshops for young people of difficult backgrounds and people experiencing mental difficulties what was for me always as challenging as enriching experience and gave me another perspective to my work. I was involved in some joint projects (f.egg. series of Holocaust inspires exhibitions titled “Journey Line”, group project “Surrealism Now”). Last few years I was focused on my individual work developing my ongoing project “The Right to Be a Recluse”. My list of exhibitions includes: Florence Biennial, Nord Art, Sarasota EOD US, “Blue line” travelling exhibition, and many other group and solo in UK, Germany, US, Poland, Switzerland, Portugal, Italy, Uruguay and other places what is documented on my website www.maciej-hoffman.com. For over 20 years I have been working on my ongoing project “Be Free for Art” which was presented in Mead Gallery Warwick, Space Gallery London etc. Currently I live and work in Chelmsford, Essex.
