Biography

Lara Petsch is a multidisciplinary artist based in Brunswick Heads on the north coast of NSW, Australia.

Lara’s love for art, travel and adventure runs deep in her DNA. She was born in Switzerland, raised in Africa, studied in Europe, and is now based in a small seaside village, just north of Byron Bay, Australia.

Throughout, Lara was fascinated with the elaborate adornments found in everyday African life… textiles, patterns, architecture, sculpture, jewellery; and the commitment to dressing up for all and every occasion.

After studying Textile Design and Art in Hannover, Lara continued her creative life in Germany where she applied her impeccable eye to interiors, furniture restoration and the fine art of gilding.
She conjures large-scale, hand-built canvases with gold-leaf, archival photos and acrylic paint to develop striking portraits, inspired by the characters she met in her travels and from memories.
