Takemoto's art practice celebrates transnational culture and hybridity. As a British-Japanese artist born in Australia and currently living in Scotland, her work is influenced by the cultures she is rooted in. By combining techniques, materials and themes from various cultures, Takemoto creates a new transnational style that is uniquely her own. This is realised in paintings that simultaneously evoke Japanese ink-wash landscapes, Romantic Highland landscapes, tempera murals, photorealistic portraiture and origami paper.
Takemoto also stresses processes in her art practice, using materials that require preparation by hand such as egg tempera and sumi ink.
