My practice integrates Kandinsky's theory of colors, with this concept of inner necessity and is inspired by Soulages for its relation to abstraction. The art that I practises in SA and that "came out just like that", with colours always connected to my emotions, to the personal experience of life, I produces it by instinct and in the moment. Resins, automotive paints and other metallic paints, offer me a masterly show when it dries out, when the textures are frozen.
This delightful duel, this alchemic relationship, allows me to live her art to the fullest, in a happy union of various products (sometimes hazardous), to finally move towards purification.
Little by little, I step out of my automatic painting (after the writing of my memoir) to give way and time to analytical painting; to know what to paint, what to use, to rethink my supports. After that I reduce my list of ingredients and distances me from effect paint. My palette is deliberately diminished. Its colours are diluted with water and materialise the erasure. Chemicals only intervene as witnesses to accomplished work, through some textured traces.

Laetitia Lor started painting when she left private education for the public and chose an art as an option. After three years of classes – consisting of 9 hours of lessons on Arts practices and Art History every week - she secures her baccalaureate. Grappled by Parisian life during the three years that followed as a model, she made the choice not to join the Fine Arts school, but rather to continue a diligent and personal practice, painting in her apartment, without ever showing her work. It was not until her arrival in Reunion Island in 2004 that her first solo exhibit took birth. However, it is her move to Cape Town that allowed her, to make her incursion into a number of galleries in the city. This resulted in the sale of more than 100 canvases in a short amount of time; this happened through permanent representation in six galleries. So debuted her professional career and especially the time of exhibits in France, and Australia. She won, among other prizes, that of the “Plasticien du Puy de Dôme” (plastic artist of Puy de Dôme). It was when she moved to Mauritius that her work took a new path. She enters the private collection of the Commercial Bank of Mauritius and the Barclays Bank. Laetitia validates her course with a validation of her Fine Arts degree - her study
focuses on “games” and on “the self” in contemporary painting (“games” in French is pronounced just like “I”, which means “the self”) - and her research brings about a reassessment as to the continuation of her work.
