to be updatedI create works of art that are decorative and sometimes functional. It is important to me to create functional works alongside my art pieces bring art into the home and everyday life to enhance the pleasure of food and the nourishment of the soul. I find it necessary to produce artful functional ceramics to serve as a reminder of our earthly surroundings and our ability to create and enjoy the handmade in our daily lives. My artwork lean to the abstract discipline as I use clay as my canvas and intend to make a statement that ceramic art is on equal footing with canvas paintings. I create Abstract modern artworks combining clay body and coloured clay through the art form of Nerikomi. The clay paintings are being enhanced with highlights of glaze, added in an abstract expressionistic way. To create Art is to use the language of the heart and emotions as well as the language of the mind and intellect. Creating with clay is my way to communicate with the viewer and convey my message through this international language of Art.

Biography

to be updated Born in Evanston IL but grew up in sunny South Africa where his parent relocated to in the 1970s Daniel developed a love for nature and the outdoors.
For anyone who lives for their passion, the inspiration can usually be traced back to childhood. For Daniel Brand, the acclaimed Pretoria-based ceramicist specialising in Nerikomi ceramics, it started in early childhood. “I grew up on my mother’s studio floor,” he recalls. “We lived in this old house where she converted the horse stables into her work space.”

Initially, however, Daniel’s life took a rather different turn. He worked in the IT and finance sectors for most of his career until health complications led to a much-needed lifestyle change in 2012. At first, this took the form of graphic design, but when he took up his mother’s craft of ceramics as a form of therapy, he no longer wanted to do anything else. Since 2017 Daniel have been a full time Ceramic Artist. Before he knew it, his work started winning awards and his ceramic career began to pick up at a steady pace with work in several private collections in the USA , Canada and the Netherlands.
