A. Karameta was born in 1958. After studying painting and scenography he travels to different parts of Europe to study the works of the great masters of the human psyche. Particularly strong influence on his technique is exercised by Velazquez, Rembrandt, Gyzis and Repin. In the following years he shares his time between scenography, teaching of academic drawing and painting. Since 1991 the artist is dedicate d entirely to painting and portraiture.

Karameta’s works often express great emotional depth. In his anthropocentric compositions elements of existing conflicts and contradictions of the contemporary social reality are exposed, as within the color, light and the hardness of his brushstrokes. This inner world is presented in a postmodern idealistic reality, with a unique technique which many times is on the verge of academic realism, and is characterized by the depth of research and experimentation of the texture of paint with dramatic lighting. With elements from baroque, abstract expressionism and contemporary postmodern realism his works take us to a unique journey, the journey of objective truth.

His works can be found in private and public collections in Italy, Germany, Greece, France, Albania and many other countries. The themes of his works include portraits, interiors, still life, landscapes and large compositions of historical and not content. He has presented his work in many European cities from 1980 to fifteen group and three solo exhibitions. He has worked in different areas of Greece such as Evia, Crete, Kos, Lesvos and Athens but also in Italy and France. The latest years he has been living and working in Athens.
