Veronica Villegas was born the 27th November 1989 between two cultural contexts: between Mexican and north American cultures in the city of El Paso, TX (USA) and Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua (Mexico). As a transmigrant artist, she considers that heterogeneity could be an assertive adjective to describe part of her artistic labour about Mexican religious imaginaries and their constant feedback within different cultural contexts, for example: in which way the representation of an Indian bodhisattva could relate within a catholic martyr. Maybe this artistic reflections have an origin in her personal background as she was raised between the border of two countries in different cities, within their very own social dynamic, which lead her to question herself about the juxtaposition of different ways to represent one concept in different spaces and cultural atmospheres. Her visual source of inspiration are kitsch, African sculptures, urban shrines and cults of illegality, which could be found in deviations of catholic and afrocaribbean religions in Latin America and Mexican-American iconography. In her artistic labour she tries to make visible the social aesthetic of appropriated urban spaces through religious costumes in different Mexican cities, recently she is questioning herself about the different ways offered by the cromos (religious icons in Mexican slang) bidimentional configuration in her most recent artistic research. Intervened images without copyright, such as cromos multiplication and repetition of motives, plain and rough images, plain colours and fragments are her main references to define plascticity on her proposals.
