Sou creates his work on a series of "VITA NOVA". This series is inspired by the cover of a magazine called "Shinsei (New Life)" which came out right after World War II. Under the title on the cover, there were 8 small letters "VITA NOVA" which probably meant "New Life" in Latin.
The intertwining of the old rubbed look of cover printed with the linear typeface that was trying to look as modern as possible at the time, reminded him of something similar to the root of the expression that he had been aiming for in the dark, perhaps he desired to always create something that made him think so. As I copy, draw, and erase something that stimulates my desire for creation on the canvas, the figure that he had drawn on canvas becomes will be in the shape and color that the original figure won't have, but he hopes that they will inspire him anyways even if he erases them from the canvas.
