“神の獣”
The Four Gods and the Qilin, the theme of this year's exhibition, are divine beasts that originated in China and have long been adored by people as the protectors of mankind. The four gods are Suzaku, White Tiger, Blue Dragon, and Xuanwu, which protect the four directions of east, west, south, north, and west. In addition, a kylin was added to the center of the four, and they came to be known as the Five Spirits. Until now, Hiroki Takeda has expressed the fusion of many animals with plants and flowers. In this exhibition, he depicts the Five Spirits, the beasts of the gods, in his own interpretation, challenging himself to sublimate them as art. Considering that guardian deities protect not only mankind but also nature as well, it could be said that the gods are essentially clothed in nature.
