9s Gallery is pleased to present "Kiriko gram - #StillTheResistance," a solo exhibition by Mantiko from Friday, 8/16/2024 to Sunday, 8/25/2024.
Kiriko Mantiko is an artist who confronts the oppression that has been imposed on people by conventional society as "beauty" and attempts to reconstruct a new style of beauty painting. In this solo exhibition, she will present new works on the theme of social networking sites, which visualize and sometimes amplify the social divisions that create oppression.
We hope you will enjoy the trajectory of Mantisko's attempts to gain deeper thoughts and new expressions while painting her works.
Mantis isan artist who challenges to "reconstruct the beauty painting" by depicting strong women with a strong and powerful gaze.
Despite being active for less than two years, Kamakiriko is a burgeoning artist who has garnered much attention, exhibiting at art fairs in Pusan, Taipei, and Dubai, as well as at Art Fair Tokyo 2023. In addition, in August 2023, he will be exhibiting with big names such as Yayoi Kusama and KYNE at the group exhibition "SIGNS OF A NEW CULTURE" at GINZA SIX, Art Grolleau.
In the same month, she had a solo exhibition "Do girls dream of Electric City?" at TRiCERA, in which seven of her works were exhibited, and the "27" exhibition in January 2024, in which all nine works were sold out.
Statement
Gender, age, nationality. Countless attributes and positions divide us into countless invisible lines.
The problems each of us faces make it difficult to even look at each other.
In this context, Mantisko aims to visualize the oppression of beauty that has been imposed on women through her work, and to "reconstruct beauty painting" in order to depict the true beauty of human beings.
Today, with the development of SNS, it has become relatively easy to visualize the wounds of each individual.
On the other hand, social networking sometimes heats up disputes between people with different standpoints, deepening the division between them.
So, will our divisions remain unresolved in the future?
Mantis has chosen to continue documenting the division through the medium of painting, using images inspired by social networking sites.
There is no solution right now.
However, it is possible to leave the wounds and positions of each individual in a visible form and continue to discuss them.
This exhibition is a timeline documenting the resistance to division by Mantidoko.
