Hiroki Takeda is an artist who continues to depict an ideal world where life coexists through the soft expressive technique of watercolor painting. In today's rapidly industrializing society, the relationship between people and nature has changed drastically, and the awareness that humans are also part of the ecosystem is fading. Takeda's works depict a fantastical world in which plants and animals become one and the same, and make the viewer aware that humans are part of nature as well.
In particular, Takeda is trying to express "a world where other lives are not sacrificed for human-centered values. In pursuit of this ideal, he has turned to the culture and art of the Edo period (1603-1868), when industrialization was still in its infancy, to create a body of work that pays homage to ukiyoe.

Ukiyoe is an art form that symbolizes the symbiosis with nature that Japan once had. Rather than simply imitating this tradition, Takeda reinterprets it from a contemporary perspective and attempts new expressions based on the theme of fusion of flora and fauna. This is also a challenge to carry on the spirit of "hon-uta-tori," which has been continued in Japanese culture since ancient times.
Please come and see the works at the exhibition venue.
