Tokyo Yume-chan

While I go to work in the glittering, muddy city, my cats, Yume-chan (gray) and Daikichi (brown), steal my attention and go on a great adventure around Tokyo. I make my works with acrylic paints and scraps of clothes.

Yume" is a beloved cat that has been by my side at all times.

The pen name "Tokyo Yume-chan" is taken from the name of my cat.

I have two cats. Yume," which is my pen name, is a girl British shorthair, and "Daikichi" is a mongrel boy.

They always appear in my works.

　Incidentally, I also added "Tokyo" because I am originally from a rural area and have always longed to be in Tokyo. I moved to Tokyo when I entered university and have lived here ever since. ...... As I continued working at night, I began to see the seedy side of Tokyo.

So this is Kabukicho.

I was so sick that I couldn't sleep for a while because I was having a hard time seeing the glittering city I had always dreamed of as anything other than what it was. It was hard to talk to my family about it, and my local friends were busy working, so we became a bit estranged.

Thanks to them, I have been able to get by.

So, I want Yume and Daikichi to continue to see the beautiful Tokyo that I have always longed for and continue to be happy. With this in mind, I started painting with the image of the two animals having a great adventure in sparkling and exciting Tokyo. I have always loved drawing pictures.

Tokyo Yume-chan's works are all drawn with dots, giving them a nostalgic atmosphere.

I used to love "Tamagotchi "* when I was little. It was so cute to see the little things moving around on the tiny screen. At the time, I would either feed the "Tamagotchi" or draw the "Tamagotchi" character. My friends and I exchanged items with each other and played with it all the way through elementary school.

Of course, when I reached junior high school and high school, my interests shifted to Tokyo and fashion. But looking back now, I think that the origin of "sparkle" for me was in "Tamagotchi," and that is why I decided to draw Yume and Daikichi with dots.

Tokyo Yume-chan reproduced the dots by putting masking tape on the panel and applying paint on top of it. She says that she draws with paints because she is not good at using a PC, but the shading of the colors due to her hand-drawing also enhances the nostalgia of the dot paintings.

I also try various things to express my own "sparkle," such as putting cloth on the heels of the panels. I used this cloth by cutting up clothes that were my favorites but that I can no longer wear.

In "Daikichi's Delusion," a pastel pink tweed-like fabric is applied to the sides, giving a light impression to the chic-colored screen.

I think there are many people like me who came to Tokyo with a yearning to live in Tokyo, but after working in Tokyo, they have become despairing about the city. I would like to create a work that will make such people feel the sparkle of Tokyo again when they see the pure and innocent Yume and Daikichi. I would like to send out information to many people, so I would like to collaborate with them to produce goods, for example.
