About the solo exhibition "Flower For You
The title of this solo exhibition, "Flower For You," represents free and beautiful love.
When we wanted to give something to our mothers as children, we did not always give them things that we bought with money. For example, we would have painted her a picture or picked her flowers as a gift.
When we grow up and are able to afford expensive things, they do not have the same value as a handmade painting or a single flower. Sometimes a single flower expresses a person's own feelings more than anything else.
Jun Suzuki's work reminds us of this simple way of expressing feelings.
We invite you to come and see Suzuki's work, which gently unravels our values and the perspectives we have acquired while growing up.
The following stickers by Jun Suzuki will be given tovisitors only (first-come, first-served). (First-come-first-served basis)
Artist Statement
The theme of "Dokuro-kun" is "free love, gratitude, and a sense of life and death." Dokuro-kun expresses positive and kind thoughts to viewers and future generations.
About the "Dokuro-kun" series:
I have loved drawing pictures since I was a child,
Among them, the cool skeleton designs on record jackets had a great influence on me at that time.
Later, I started drawing in earnest, but I sometimes felt anxious about death, something I had not felt in my childhood, and the skeleton motifs I had been drawing before gradually came to be perceived in my mind as anxious and dark images.
I wanted to change something, so I decided to try to express the feeling of life and death in a different and prettier way than before.
With a skeletal face, I drew a pop expression of a living body, a pendulum of life and death mixed together (Mr. Skull).
As I drew, I realized that "to think about death is to think about life.
I have a strong "desire" to live, and as I drew this character, I naturally became less anxious about death.
I hope to bring people living in the present and the future a moment of relief through Dokuro-kun, who was born from positive emotions.
