Contemporary art is difficult. Who in the world is it and how is it valued?
If you have ever tried to learn about contemporary art, you may have had such a puzzling experience.
Read the "100 People for Understanding Contemporary Art" series to get a comprehensive overview of the major domestic and international players in the art world.

1. David Zwirner: David Zwirner Gallery

David Zwirner is a gallerist from Germany. He is the owner of David Zwirner Gallery, a mega-gallery with seven locations in four cities around the world, including New York and London.
Among the artists represented are Donald Judd, Thomas Ruf, Yayoi Kusama, and On Kawahara, all of whom create large-scale minimalist works.
Last year, it was announced that in 2022, the gallery will welcome Gerhard Richter, one of the greatest masters of our time, whose solo exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, is still fresh in our minds.
He is also the most important figure in the art world, having sold over 800 million yen (Jeff Koons), the highest single price online, and being ranked highly in the Power 100 (Art Review magazine) every year.

2. Larry Gagosian: Gagosian

Larry Gagosian is the owner of a mega-gallery that features prominent contemporary artists in a gallery setting with museum quality exhibits.
Raised in California by Armenian parents, he initially sold posters and photographs on the UCLA campus. Gradually, he began to collect, exhibit, and sell the work of contemporary artists of his era, and began to deal in the work of such well-known artists as John Baldesari and Bruce Nauman.
Today, it is one of the world's leading mega-galleries, handling a large number of contemporary artists.

3. marc glimcher: pace gallery

Marc Glimcher is the owner of Pace Gallery, founded by his father, Arne Glimcher, and also ranked in Art Review's Power 100.
In 2012, the gallery made headlines when it sold a Gerhard Richter work for approximately 2.6 billion yen.
He has been with the gallery for more than 30 years and has introduced important contemporary artists such as Michael Rovner and Julian Schnabel.

4. Marc Spiegler & Florian Faber: Art Basel

Marc Spiegler and Florian Faber represent the Spiegler Company, which organizes Art Basel, the world's largest art fair.
Art Basel is the world's largest art fair, held annually in the northwestern Swiss city of Basel since 1970. The main gallery space showcases works by a wide range of top artists from the 20th and 21st centuries in genres such as painting, sculpture, photography, installation, performance and video art, and attracts approximately 95,000 visitors. The number of visitors to the exhibition has been measured at about 95,000.
The 2022 Art Basel in Basel has successfully weathered the Corona blow and contributed to the expansion of the art market, with exhibitors returning to pre-pandemic levels and the fair hosting its largest Miami edition to date.

5. emmanuel perrotin: perrotin

Emmanuel Perrotin is the founder and owner of Perrotin, a mega-gallery based in Paris with galleries in six cities: New York, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Seoul, and Tokyo.
It is now known as the first gallery to introduce world-renowned artists such as Takashi Murakami and JR.
In the sense that it brought art that often draws on subcultures into the art world, Perrotin can be considered a revolutionary presence that has pushed the boundaries of art.

6. Daniel Templon: Galerie Templon

Daniel Templon is the owner of Galerie Templon in Paris. Galerie Templon is a well-established gallery with locations in Paris, Brussels, and New York.
Founded in Paris in 1966, the gallery has been actively introducing artists such as Jeff Koons, Richard Serra, the Chapman brothers, and Kehinde Wiley in France. It has also always worked with French artists such as Christian Boltanski.

7. Nathalie Obadia: Galerie Nathalie Obadia

Nathalie Obadia is the owner of the Nathalie Obadia Gallery, based in Paris and Brussels.
She has introduced artists such as Lina Banerjee, Fiona Ray, and Jessica Stockholder to the French-speaking world.
The gallery actively participates in the world's major art fairs such as Art Basel (Basel, Hong Kong and Miami), Art Geneva and the NY Armory Show.
