Realism by Aoi K
Aoi K is inspired by the concept of "realism infused with life and space, and realism and beauty found by confronting real ism. She is an artist who draws objects that move her with the concept of "realism infused with life and space, and the reality and beauty found by confronting realism. She recreates on canvas the "things," "times," and "people" that have moved her in the story of her own life.
The paintings in this exhibition are based on the artist's personal experiences and express the duality of the beauty of what she sees and the beauty of what she feels.
Artist Statement
My art is made up of two main stimuli. One is that I became a mother and had a chance to think about my ancestors, and I was impressed by the chain oflife, the momentary brilliance of life in contrast to its long history, and the fact that I am in the midst of this flow. The other is that I was overwhelmed by the realism(everything in this world, including time, space, and physics) as a creationthrough my full commitment to realism and painting ability.
Another underlying theme is to look into the real through painting, to know the connection between the real and the human, andtoput "something good" into the canvas. I think that sounds and tastes are easy to understand, but I would like to know what is the common human perception of "pleasant sound", "unpleasant sound", "delicious", and "unpleasant", which may vary from person to person. People tend to say that art is free and art is a matter of taste, butI believe that " something good" is also found in the visual sense, andthat there is an "answer" to the question of what is beautiful. I want to search for it and put "beauty" on the canvas. Seeing the invisible sometimes frees me from common sense and assumptions, which I personally enjoy, and this is now the purpose of my realism paintings.
Most of my paintings are so personal that it is difficult for me to let go of them, and I paint them when I am moved."
The title of this solo exhibition, "Peeking" reflects the artist's desire to highlight "Aoi K, who seeks and tries to see what is the invisible reality.
