Biografia

Il percorso fotografico di Karim è un viaggio alla ricerca di se stesso, o forse solo del proprio posto nel mondo, in modo via via più consapevole e autobiografico. La graduale e crescente selezione di forme e toni, grazie anche alla purificazione delle composizioni cromatiche, approda a un concetto di fotografia immobile nel tempo e isolata nello spazio, e a rappresentazioni sempre più tendenti all'astratto.

Questa ricerca, che apparentemente assume i rischiosi connotati di un atteggiamento formalistico, quasi snobistico, rivela in realtà la ricerca di un nuovo codice, capace di enfatizzare il grido di dolore della natura violata. L'amore per la natura, per il mare in particolare, e la consapevolezza della minaccia da parte dell'uomo, lo portano a selezionare forme progressivamente sempre più astratte in cui dissolvere quasi ogni richiamo alla realtà. Elementi primordiali rimescolati su un unico piano, e poi ridisegnati su strati con coordinate diverse, su uno sfondo rarefatto, mobile, fantastico. È una ricerca in cui il linguaggio fotografico intraprende un coraggioso viaggio verso la dimensione astratta.

Un processo di trascendenza che ci riporta alle avanguardie del Novecento.
