Tennis has been prominent in 2022 news. Several greats who have played the game and dominated it have retired (Williams, Federer, and the lesser known, Kevin Anderson). Meanwhile, a new generation is peeking over the net, ready to rise and take their places.

The artist created “(W)inning serve” in an impressionistic style to represent the changing of the guard from old to new and then the new becoming old itself, just as, in painting, Impressionism ascended and then was replaced by various types of Modernism and Post-Modernist styles of painting.

Skyler thought a doubles match between the old, the young and the unseen to be just the right way to show the cycle of glory from ascendency, supremacy and then fading out with one last game.
