キャンバスとは、キリスト教教会から発生したその起源から
描かれたものを“磔(はりつけ)”にする装置である。その確信のもと、西欧由来であるキャンバスに
明治以降、西欧のルールに生活様式を塗り替えていった身体(日本人の自画像)を
磔(はりつけ)にするように描いてきました。● 描かれた身体について
人間とは何か、作家⾃⾝のルーツである日本⼈について、
さらに古代から続く縄⽂文化や他国(アメリカ・ホ ピやアイルランドなど)の歴史や関連、
共通点を紐解き、参照しています。それらをもとに“想像⼒(ビジョン)”をもとに作品として具現化させています。ベルリンの壁跡に箱を設置し、かつてあった境界線上の中に作者が入る「Trance Room Project(2001)」 や、
地上と地下を繋ぐ、まるで宗教上の“鏡”のようなマンホールを描いた「ManHolePainting(2008)」 など、
人間の活動や生活環境の中にある“境界線”や“異界”をテーマとして作品を制作してきました。The paintings express about the existence of human beings who exist between "heaven" and "earth".● About Canvas
The canvas, which originated in the Christian church, is a device for "crucifying" the painted object. Based on this conviction, I have beenpainting on the canvas, which is of Western origin, as if to crucify the body (Japanese self-portrait), which has been rewritten to Western rules andlifestyles since the Meiji era (1868-1912).● About the painted body
The artist has been exploring and referring to what human beings are, his own Japanese roots, as well as the history andsimilarities of the ancient Jomon culture and other countries (such as Hopi and Ireland in the U.S.).Based on these references, the artist's "imagination" (vision) is embodied in his artwork.
In the "Trance Room Project (2001)," he installed a box on theruins of the Berlin Wall and placed the artist inside the boundary line that once existed.
ManHole Painting (2008)," in which the artist painted a manholethat connects the ground and underground, as if it were a religious "mirror.
In these and other works, the artist has focused on the theme of "boundaries"and "other worlds" in human activities and living environments.
