20年に渡る写真家としてのキャリアの中で、2冊の作品集が出版された。NOISE (2008)とHESTER (2021)。これらの中で発表された作品は、二つの別々のシリーズをまとめたものではない。どちらも、継続的な流れの中にあり、作家としての発展、変化、また変わらず一貫した特性がみられるものとなっている。女性のモデル、というより体やその一部を使い、いかなるロジカルな流れも、理解可能なストーリーもない、そんな世界を作り上げる。それは、目覚める直前に見た夢に似ている。 HESTERは2008年から2018年までに制作された作品からのセレクション。「HESTER」は、この本に含まれた作品のタイトルであり、元々はジョン・アーヴィング著のA Prayer forOwen Meanyに登場する女性の名前だ。この非常に極端なキャクターを持った架空の女性HESTERに、私はとても惹かれるのだ。外向的で、凶暴で滅茶苦茶、でも同時に繊細で、愛情に溢れ、チャーミング。この二面性は私にとって非常に重要で、作品に登場する全ての女性たちを、愛を込めてHESTERとよびたい。 前作のNOISEも、ある人に「このイメージにはノイズがある」と言われた一作品のタイトルでもある。チューニングの難しいラジオから聞こえてくるかすかな雑音。イライラさせられると同時に、はっきりと聞こえないので余計に気になる。当時も今も、私の生み出す作品たちは、そんな存在だと思っている。 During mytwenty years of career, 2 photo books have been published: NOISE (2008) and HESTER (2021).The worksincluded in those publications are not from 2separate series. They are in acontinuation in which my development and evolution as artist and also what isconsistent can be found. I work withfemalemodels, or rather (a part of) their body, in staged settings to create aworld without any logical flow or narrative, which is similar to our wakingdreams.In HESTER my photographs from 2008 to 2018are bundled together. HESTER is the title of one of the photographs featured andoriginally taken from acharacter in the novel, A Prayer for Owen Meany byJohn Irving. I am drawn to this particular fictional female, Hester, because ofher extreme nature; she isan extrovert, aggressive and chaotic, but alsosensitive, loving and charming. With a lot of affection, I couldcall all the women in my photographs‘Hester’. The title ofmy first book NOISE is also takenfrom one of the works included, of which someone once said "This image hasnoise".A subtlesound emerging from abadly tuned radio. It is disturbing but at the same time,it makes you more curious as you cannot really capture what is behind thatnoise.The images Icreatehave been, and still are just like such noise.
