I painted this work when I visited Mont Saint-Michel, France in 2011. I used pen, Arches paper, watercolor, and sumi ink. This is the view from the top church of Mont Saint-Michel. It was an impressive place with a soft and beautiful gray-toned landscape. During my stay, I felt a strange inspiration from the nanahoshi ladybugs that kept coming and staying on my body, so I drew a large image of them as messengers of the land.
