The end of the world can mean different things. When I painted this, the Amazon was on fire, megastorms were destroying communities, refugees were denied shelter. A year later, things feel even worse in many places of the world. The end of the world can also mean a state of mind—depression, despair. In religious terminology, it can mean the entrance to another dimension. It is also the border between what we know and what we don’t. Light is present in all landscapes: it is a fundamental part of our universe.
