In a society that tell us we are unique but punishes our deviance with one hand then rewards our conformity with the other, it is difficult to find our place while simultaneously remaining true to ourselves. Maiba-taya is as much a reminder to myself (especially as an artist) as it is to the audience, that even in mundane routines and everyday scenes, there exists within us all an intangible spirit that differentiates each from the other—should we choose to manifest it. And this difference must not only be acknowledged, but also celebrated. As in flora and fauna, in the genes that give rise to life, a species is only made stronger through its diversity.
