9s Gallery held Hiroki Takeda's solo exhibition "Urgent Quest: The Breath of Flower Dragon" from 3/30/2024 (Sat) to 4/7/2024 (Sun).
This project was a collaboration to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the "Monster Hunter" series, a hunting action game in which players confront giant monsters in a magnificent natural setting.
About Hiroki Takeda
Hiroki Takeda is an artist who creates watercolor paintings combining animals and flowers.
With his meticulous brushwork and vivid colors, he expresses the realism and cuteness of animals that seem to come to life.
Her commissioned work has been waiting for two yearsand has been featured in the international media, attracting attention both in Japan and abroad.
About the Exhibition
This exhibition featured five works depicting popular monsters such as Rioreus and Airou. In the background of each work was a huge map depicting the habitat of each monster. The curation of the exhibition aimed to create a sense of immersion in the world of Monster Hunter.
The works were sold by lottery, and all were sold out due to the large number of entries.
Exhibition view
More than 70 visitors attended the opening party held on the first day of the exhibition.
It was an opportunity for visitors to view the works of art while interacting with Hiroki Takeda himself.
Monster Hunter fans commented, "I had an image of monsters as strong and tough,
But through the works on display, I felt their flexibility and beauty, and my view of the world was broadened. One of them said, "I had an image of monsters as strong and tough.

First of all, I would like to thank Capcom for finding, selecting, and trusting Hiroki Takeda and giving him the opportunity to collaborate with us.
Congratulations on your 20th anniversary.
Before the exhibition, I had a strong feeling that you wanted people who do not usually visit exhibitions to come and see your work,
However, I was also anxious about what kind of reaction I would get from visitors who saw the original works at the exhibition.
However, when I actually arrived at the gallery and received real reactions, I found that they were "impressed," "cool," "cute," and so on,
I was impressed by the positive response.
It was also refreshing to be able to communicate with people who do not usually visit the gallery, such as men of the Monhan generation.

Also, the venue this time had a Monster Hunter feel, but at the same time it was a fun and festive place to enjoy the atmosphere,
It was fun for me to be there as well.
There were maps set up in the exhibition hall and background music playing, so there was none of the tension that often accompanies exhibitions, in a good way.
The works I drew this time were characters that have appeared since the beginning of the popularity of Monster Hunter,
Many monster fans said it was nostalgic.
Many monster fans expressed their nostalgia for the characters that appeared in the exhibition, and we were able to draw a lot of people who were interested in the expression of the artwork,
I was delighted that people were interested in the expression of the work when they saw the original, and that they said, "This is a work that is truly appropriate for the 20th anniversary.

One of the most memorable comments from customers was the play on words in each monster's name.
For example, "Rioreus"→"Hana Reus," "Narugakuruga"→"Haruga Kuruga," etc. I felt that the fact that they thought of Monster Hunter in combination with their own work was recognized by MonHun fans.

In drawing the monsters for this project, we received supervision from the Monster Hunter development team,
I was able to experience the process of expressing the characteristics and features of each monster after carefully examining their body shapes and other details.
I will use this experience to draw some of the divine beasts for my solo exhibition to be held at 9s Gallery in July,
I would like to create an interesting worldview by capturing the background and characteristics of each of them while bringing out my own colors to the fullest.
